What this tool assumes
- Fidelity retirement-benchmark rule of thumb: 1x salary at 30, 3x at 40, 6x at 50, 8x at 60, 10x at 67.
- Your income target is grown to retirement age at a fixed 2.5%/yr, a long-run planning assumption (close to the ~2.6% CPIConsumer Price Index (CPI)The government's measure of how much a typical basket of consumer goods costs over time.Full definition average of the last 30 years). It deliberately does not track the latest CPI print (3.46% for the 12 months through June 2026): a projection spanning decades shouldn't re-anchor to one year's print. If inflation runs at the current rate instead, your target grows faster; stress-test that in the FIRE Calculator.
- Assumes constant real return through retirement.
- Employer match is added to annual contributions.
Not financial advice. Projections assume constant returns and contributions.
